A Day in the Hudson Valley: History, Views, and Fresh Air

Today we set out from our Airbnb in Albany for a full day of exploring the Hudson Valley. Our first stop was the West Point Museum, a fascinating place brimming with military history. We spent a couple of hours walking through the exhibits, learning about the nation’s earliest battles, the evolution of military technology, and the stories of those who shaped West Point’s legacy. It felt like stepping into the pages of history.

From there, we shifted from history to breathtaking views at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park. Lucky came along for this adventure and couldn’t have been happier. The wide pedestrian bridge stretches across the Hudson River, offering sweeping panoramas of the water and surrounding valley. We strolled all the way across, soaking in the scenery, before taking the elevator down to the river’s edge for a closer look. Feeling the cool breeze and looking up at the bridge from below was a whole new perspective.

After ascending back up, we made our way across the walkway once more, this time with the late afternoon light softening over the river. By the time we reached the other side, we were ready for a break. Luckily, a row of food trucks was waiting near the entrance. A quick snack hit the spot and wrapped up our outing perfectly before we headed back to Albany for the evening.

It was a day of contrasts—military history in the morning, wide-open skies and river views in the afternoon—all tied together by good walking, fresh air, and Lucky’s happy energy. The Hudson Valley really delivered a memorable day trip.
