Our day in Montreal began with a visit to Mount Royal Park, one of the city’s most iconic green spaces. We made our way up to the Kondiaronk Belvedere, which normally offers a spectacular view of downtown Montreal framed by the river and distant hills. Today, though, a thick haze of smoke softened the skyline and muted the city’s colors. It wasn’t quite the panoramic moment we’d hoped for, but the peaceful atmosphere still made it worth the trip. Lucky, of course, didn’t mind in the slightest—tail wagging, happy as ever to explore somewhere new.

Rather than head straight back, I chose the scenic route, wandering along the park’s winding walking trails. The gentle curves, shaded paths, and occasional glimpses of the city through the trees made it a serene, almost meditative stroll.

From there, we made our way to the bustling Jean Talon Market, a feast for the senses. The air was filled with the scent of ripe fruit, fresh herbs, and warm baked goods. Stalls overflowed with colorful produce, artisan cheeses, and fragrant flowers. After soaking in the lively atmosphere, it was time for a Montreal food essential: bagels.

We headed to St-Viateur Bagel, where the famous wood-fired ovens have been turning out chewy, golden perfection for decades. Lunch was simple but satisfying—a bagel fresh from the oven, still warm, with all the right toppings.
With the day winding down, we made a quick stop to charge the car before heading back to our Airbnb. It wasn’t the clearest day for sightseeing, but between the peaceful park trails, the vibrant market, and a bagel that lived up to its reputation, Montreal still managed to charm us in its own smoky, laid-back way.
